Le Paris d’Emilie•Place Saint Germain-des-Prés

Did you know that the only sculpture by Picasso exhibited outside in Paris was displayed right here, next to the church Saint Germain-des-Prés ? This artwork, made of bronze, had been offered by the spanish master to the city of Paris in 1959 as a tribute to his beloved friend and supporter the french poet Guillaume Apollinaire who died from spanish flu in 1918 and it represents his lover Dora Maar, a talented surrealist photographer - whom he met in Café Les Deux Magots in 1935, just in front of the church. Their passionate love story started just after they met until 1945.

Thanks to Anne Muraro @parisdeluxearty for this fascinating legendary story.
